Client: Environment Agency - Bedford
Location: Thornborough Buckinghamshire
ADC newest equipment the Silt Pusher a.k.a. the 'floating bulldozer' has proved its worth over and over again with projects for the environment agency in Suffolk, Lincolnshire and Buckinghamshire.
De-silting Case Study - Thornbourgh Mill
EA Bedford contacted ADC
ADC were contacted by the Environment Agencies' Bedford office with a project that had numerous problems to solve. The project was to de-silt an area of river at Thornborough Mill in Buckinghamshire.
Site problems to solve
The very old bridge had a weight restriction and overhead power lines restricted access, making it impossible to dredge and de-silt safely by conventional means using an excavator. On top of this a power cable had been laid below the river bed.
The Silt Pusher makes light work
Using the Silt Pusher we could move the silt to a position where the we could safely and efficiently use our pumps to remove it.
Dewatering reduces waste by 75%
Then using our high-tech dewatering rig we could return the water and take the dry 'caked' waste to an approved local waste site for disposal. The waste was reduced by 75% using this process minimising transportation and waste costs.
Beauty spot preservered
Thornbourgh Mill is a grade II listed building surrounded by picturesque countryside so it was imperative the waste was removed and the nature preserved.
Clients very impressed
"The whole project went very well, was closely managed and from setup to completion took 8 days" quoted Mike Reeve.
The key advantages of using ADC's Silt Pusher:
- Fast watercourse de-silting
- Variable width channel de-silting
- Superior river bed profiling
- Easily transportable
- Excels in difficult access/shallow watercourses
